The family tradition which got started by our great-grandmother Mercè, the seafood cuisine and the seasonal products come together in our kitchen to achieve a traditional and fresh proposal, one with product proximity and roots in our land.

This is why in our menu we include all year round proposals, such as our paellas or fish “suquets”, and also the proposals which depend on the season of the year and the fresh product purchased in Vilanova i la Geltrú’s fishermen market or our local producers.

At Vell Papiol you can enjoy the seafood of Vilanova i la Geltrú (prawns, crayfish, espardenyes, lobsters, tallines, snails,…) but also a small representation of the seafood of Galicia (clams, razor clams, barnacles ,…).

It goes without saying that in Vilanova i la Geltrú’s fishermen market we also buy fish (sea bass, sea bream, grouper, monkfish, tuna,…) which we cook in the oven, in “suquet”, grilled, barbecued or with various sauces.

With all these ingredients it is also worth highlighting, obviously, our rice dishes and fideuàs: paellas, lobster rice, seafood rice, black rice, squid and espardenyes rice, seafood fideuá,…

And as it couldn’t be otherwise, we also serve Calafell’s typical “Arrossejat”, of which we are great ambassadors. Just take into consideration that you will have to ask for it us in advance for us to be able to cook it properly.

But Baix Penedès county has also great crops and meats, which we do not hesitate to include in our menu: diverse starters with local produce, grilled goat ribs, local veal fillet, entrecote of Galician cow, veal sweetbreads, dishes with fresh duck liver, etc.

We have a daily menu at your disposal, the Denomination of Origin Menu.

Following our love for the product, its name is given by its ingredients, as the most of them are quality products coming from a nearby producer or a specific place. Next to the menu you will find the list of producers which make up the menu.

We created the menu as a formula to enjoy our gastronomy, products with a Designation of Origin and quality at a closed price.

You can try this menu throughout the whole week, including Saturday and Sunday, both for lunch and dinner.

Its price is 27 euros per person (drinks, optional gastronomic tapa and VAT are not included)

In the menu you can usually choose from 5 first courses, 5 second courses and 5 desserts, in addition to a gastronomic tapa as an optional extra. The proposals are constantly renewed depending on the season and our producers.

Some examples of dishes to choose from in Designation of Origin Menu may be:

Organic tomato salad with marinated sardines and fresh basil oil / Bean salad with Cantabrian anchovies and nyora vinaigrette / Vilanova prawn sautéed in garlic with Chardonnay Forvm vinegar

Risotto with mushrooms, vegetables and prawns / Noodles “rossejats” with seafood / Fish market “suquet” / Charcoal grilled beef with green pepper sauce and vegetables

Bread, oil and chocolate truffles / Assorted artisan cheeses / Vanilla cream with red fruits

A quality Cellar

We love wine. We are sommeliers (The Chef David Vernet is the 749th member of the Catalan Association of Sommeliers) and enthusiasts of wine which can talk about its land. Maybe that’s why we’ve been Cartaví Awards finalists on two occasions (2013 and 2018, for now).

We make an effort so that in our winery you will find a good selection of all the Denominations of Origin of Catalonia (Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Costers del Segre, Terra Alta, Pla de Bages, Alella, Empordà, Montsant, Priorat and Catalunya). Obviously, however, the most representative part are the wines of the DO Penedès where we are, and very especially a careful selection of Baix Penedès’ wines.

In addition, on the menu you will also find wines from the rest of the country (Rías Baixas, Valdeorras, Rueda, Somontano, Rioja, Ribera del Duero), as well as Catalan and French sparkling wines (DO Penedès, AOC Champagne, among others).

The quality, selection and variety of our wine menu is also complemented by a selection of novelties and recommendations, in order to discover the wine or sparkling wine that best complements your meal.
